artist’s note

I (BYVITS) am a self-taught, unorthodox artist, primarily motivated by my Tamil heritage and Hindu philosophy. My art is reinventive, with themes of the past employed through modern mediums, welcoming multiple interpretations.

I draw inspiration from the people of Eelam, Tamil history, and the diversity of South Asian cultures. My work is intended to inspire the viewer, elicit emotions, and leave the audience with a sense of familiarity and education.

Although the focal point lies on my South Asian roots, I do not confine my art to single concepts, faiths, or cultures. MY paintbrush has touched on the beauty of everyone, experimenting with Arabic calligraphy, celebrity portraits, and East Asian art.

With art as my primary language, I hope to shed light on underemphasised matters and raise awareness wherever practicable; I incorporate symbolism in my artwork to connect the concepts I aim to portray.

The ultimate goal is to draw inspiration from my neighbours, so viewers from all backgrounds and walks of life are represented, connected to my work, and learn something new.

I hope when you look at my art, you are able to see a bit of yourself. I work to ensure every picture tells a story, unique for all of us, so we can appreciate the colours of life and learn a little more every day.
